I want to find an institution. How can I do that?
There are multiple ways to find institutions listed in the directory. You can browse the list of all institutions, or use specific criteria to filter that list. You can also search by both name and location. When searching by location, please use the auto-fill feature in order to get the best results.
Why should I create an account? How do I create an account?
Creating an account allows you to save a list of favorite listings and to claim the listing of institutions you are associated with. If you plan to claim a listing, please create your account using an email from that listing. You can create an account by clicking the “Create an Account” link on the Sign In page.
My institution is listed here. How can I update the information?
If you are a faculty member associated with the institution, or a representative of the faculty designated by the unit/department chair, you can claim the listing. First, you will need to create an account. Please be sure to use an email associated with the institution on your account. Then, find the institution’s profile. There will be an option on the right side of the screen to claim the listing (if it has not already been claimed). Click the “Claim This Listing” button. Your request to claim the listing will be reviewed. If approved, you will be notified by email, and the listing will appear in your Dashboard with the option to edit.
Do I have to answer all of the questions on the form?
Agreement to the terms and conditions is required. All other questions are optional. However, we encourage you to answer as many as possible so that we can compile accurate data about the state of the field.
You can also update the form over multiple sessions. Please simply click the “Save” or “Preview Changes” button at the bottom of the form. You can return to the form via your Dashboard at any time.
My institution has already been claimed by someone else. What can I do about that?
If your institution has already been claimed, you can write to admin@studyreligiondirectory.org. Please include in that message the name of the institution and your role within it. Your claim to the institution’s page will be reviewed. Please note that priority for an institution’s page is given to the unit/department chair, then to a person designated by the chair (including administrative assistants), then to other faculty members of the unit/department.
My institution is not listed here. How can I request to add it?
First, you will need to create an account. Once you have logged in, go to your Dashboard. There you will find a button to “Submit a Listing.” Fill out the form; you can also partially fill in the form and return later to complete it. Be sure to click “Save” (for first-time submissions) or “Preview Changes” (for edits/revisions). Your post will be reviewed for publication.
Where did the institutions listed on the site come from?
The initial list was compiled from a variety of sources. These include the list of institutions that have chapters of Theta Alpha Kappa, institutions associated with members of the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature, institutions accredited by the Association of Theological Schools, institutions that reported granting degrees using particular Classification of Instructional Program (CIP) codes to the United States Department of Education, and institutions that have requested that they be added by filling out the form on the site. The presence or absence of a particular institution implies neither endorsement nor opposition by the groups sponsoring this website.
How is the information on this site used?
Information on this site is used in two ways. First, items on the form marked public are displayed on the institution’s public profile on this site. Other items are used as data for reporting about the state of the field and how it is changing. Please see the Privacy Policy and Terms of Participation for more information.
