Collect information about units and departments in religious studies.
This directory conducts a survey of academic units to gather and track information about departments and programs in religious studies and theology, particularly as many units and institutions are facing broader threats to the humanities.
Create a public-facing directory of departments
This directory is the first of its kind and includes hundreds of religious studies, theology, and biblical studies academic departments. Students, faculty, and independent scholars can search the directory by geographic location, degree programs, funding and teaching opportunities, and areas of study.
Report information about departments of religious studies
The AAR, SBL, and TAK are dedicated to advocating and supporting academic departments and units of religious studies, theology, and biblical studies. By collecting and tracking information on these departments, the organizations can create snapshots in the field and can offer reports, analysis, and resources to students, faculty, independent scholars, and higher education administrators.
Advisory Group
This survey effort was designed with consultation from a broad range of advisors representing multiple professional associations, advocacy organizations, religion program leaders and other relevant stakeholders. Members of the advisory group included leadership from AAR, SBL, & TAK. Advice was also given from members representing the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Humanities Alliance, and the Association of Theological Schools.
